After being locked in our house basically for 5+ months, I started looking up drivable getaways from our home, like every other person in America. I had visited Broken Bow, OK pre-kids and my husband goes every year for his guy’s trip, so it was one of the first spots I checked out. Only to find, that everything and I mean EVERYTHING was fully booked for months. It kind of made me giggle because I had never really thought of Broken Bow as a sought after destination, but in COVID times – it is the place to be apparently! So back in June when I was trying to get away, I booked The Roasted Marshmallow Cabin (I mean could you get a cuter name) for the end of October (their first available date). I thought well, at least the weather will be nice!
I had no idea I would need this weekend getaway as much as I did at this exact weekend. God has a mysterious way of working. From Prosper, the drive to Broken Bow is 3 hours almost exact. We pulled down a dirt and bumpy road, and when we pulled up to the cabin; this might sound like an exaggeration, but it felt like I heard “hallelujah” coming from the clouds. The kids jumped out of the car squealing with excitement, immediately wanting to check everything out.
Every detail of this Cabin was thought through, from the wrap around porch with rocking chairs to the hammocks, to the fire pit, the kid’s swings, the hot tub on the porch with a viewable TV while sitting in a hot tub Y’ALL (maybe I’m easy to please, but that was thrilling ha!) and not to mention everything inside. I felt like I walked into an episode of ‘Fixer Upper’ and Chip and Joanna had just completed their final scene. You know where every inch of the house is perfectly placed. It is a perfect Cabin for a couple’s getaway or a small family like ours. There is one huge bedroom, with a magical bathroom and the living room has a super comfortable day bed with a pull out trundle, as well as a cozy couch if you wanted to fit more.
You honestly don’t need to leave this Cabin your whole trip, between grilling out, roasting s’mores by the campfire and getting cozy in the hot tub; but if you wanted to go do some excursions The Roasted Marshmallow has a Binder full of suggestions which was so helpful!
I wanted to share what we enjoyed with our 5 and 2-year-old:
- Beaver’s Bend Mining Co
- Gem and Fossil Mining – the girls loved this!
- Dino Dig and Dino Rides
- Wax Hands
- Pirate’s Cove Play Area
- Beaver’s Bend State Park
- Grab a map of trails and pick any! We went on a short one with the kiddos and played by a creek, it was beautiful.
- Beaver’s Bend Depot and Stables
- The girls loved the Train Ride
- They also have Horseback riding, Hay rides and Pony Rides
- Beaver’s Bend Brewery
- We sat outside on picnic tables where they had corn hole and life size Connect 4 and got food delivered from the Rolling Fork Takery that was next door and so yummy!
- The Beer and Wine served were just what we needed traveling with toddlers 🙂
- Also, must recommend Hochatown Coffee Central – yummy lattes and to go breakfast!
With this said, there is so much more to do, the lake is absolutely beautiful and there are a lot of lake activities to take part in, as well as Fly Fishing!
