The benefits of reading for kids is absolutely undeniable. I fondly remember looking forward to summer so I could get lost in my favorite books for hours without interruption- after sleeping in until at least 10 or 11am. Those were the “good ol days!”
Summer is filled with so many fun activities, but it’s important to strike a balance with reading! Reading is not just a great way to learn vocabulary, it also impacts language, emotional development, creativity, school success, attention span, and family connection.
As little as 10-15 minutes per day can be incredibly beneficial. I created this PDF for you to use to keep track of your reading this summer. Dollar Tree, Amazon, Target all sell the little dot stickers or you can use a dot marker or color them in! As a visual person myself, having a sticker chart to see how much progress I’ve made is the best way to keep going! As a Mom of 4 kids, I’m not stranger to bribes or prizes. You’ll see on the form I included a line for their name and a prize. Take the liberty of writing in what you wish, here’s what I’ll suggest to my kiddos for them to choose from.
- Ice cream date with Mom
- Boba Tea date with Mom
- $20 limit Target toy
- 3 New Books
- Lunch Date with Mom
- Trip to the Library solo
- Slime Kit
- New Journal
I hope your summer reading journey starts here and takes off!
