SMS DFW has been servicing Dallas and the surrounding areas since September of 2016.
What services can your team provide for families? Day time hours? Overnights? Weekends?
Families have an online account and can easily submit the days/times they are needing a sitter, and we work to confirm those requests. We offer help with before and after school care, part time, full time, evenings, weekends, overnights, last minute, as well as event sitting. Sitters responsibilities include picking up after children, to include meals, however, they do not perform household chores. We want their primary focus to be on the children during their sitting hours.
What ages do you provide care for? Is there a max or minimum age/number of hours?
Sitters can care for newborns and even up to teenagers. We have a three hour minimum when booking; however, if a sitter isn’t needed that entire time, that’s fine, they’re just to be paid for that minimum.
Describe what you look for in a sitter when you hire them?
We recruit the bulk of our sitters from the local colleges, and the other sitters that apply are referrals from sitters already with SMS®. We also have sitters that work professional jobs during the day and sit in the evenings and weekends, or during the summer as with teachers. We require sitters to be 18 years of age or older, have years of prior childcare experience, have their own reliable vehicle, be CPR certified as well as have a clean driving record and background check. We are looking for responsible sitters that have a genuine love and passion for children and are respectful of family’s guidelines.
What certifications or training do your sitters have?
All sitters are required to be CPR certified, have a driver’s license, as well as a clean background and driving record. A lot of sitters are certified in other specialities, as well as have unique experience and will indicate so on their personal profile.
Can you explain the background check process?
We use a third party service to do all background checks. All sitters have a clean driving record and background check, as it is a requirement to be a sitter. Any sitter that falls short of our standards will not be hired.
How do you sign up for a sitter? What is the process like? Does the family choose the sitter or is it assigned?
Families once registered can book from their online account. We have one time, consistent (part time/long term care), last minute, overnight, before and after school care services etc! You follow the prompts, put in the date and time you need a sitter, choose from the available sitters, read their bios to learn more about them, then checkout. The sitter will receive the request and you’ll be notified if they accept or decline the request. In the event the sitter is unable to confirm, our system will confirm the next available sitter. We strive to provide families with consistency, so anytime one of their previously used, or favorite sitters are available our system will assign them. Families are able to favorite sitters they would like to have return, if their favorites are not showing during the booking process, they can reach out to the office to let us know which sitters you would like us to reach out to first!

We do all onboarding, interviewing and vetting of the sitters, so any sitter that is active in our system has gone through all the requirements and maintained positive feedback. Our office can assist with communicating with the sitter prior to their arrival. We are moms too, so we understand the importance of having trust in who you leave your precious children with.
