Tell us a little bit about you! I grew up in South Texas and attended Baylor University, where I met my husband. This April will be 11 years of marriage for us! I have had a life-long passion for interior design and ran a staging and design business for nearly a decade before launching my design and lifestyle blog.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages? I have one 7-year-old daughter named Sloane

What’s your favorite thing about being a mom? Watching my daughter grow and develop into her own person more and more each day and seeing that all the little things I do and all the time and energy I pour into being a mom, matters. I’m helping to shape her into who she will become and getting little glimpses of that is so rewarding. She is literally growing up before my eyes. I also love doing family activities together, whether that be traveling or snuggling on the sofa for movie night. Sloane fills our lives with so much joy. I love when she gives me a hug because she knows I need one. She is my best friend and always will be. I can’t wait to see how our friendship grows and changes over the years as she gets older.

How did you end up in Frisco area? My husband and I moved to Frisco in 2014, before my daughter was one year old. We were living in the Dallas area, but we wanted to purchase a home where we could get more bang for our buck; in an area that had good schools and was family oriented. Frisco checked all the boxes.

What do you love about the Frisco area? We love the sense of community and that so many young families live here. We have enjoyed watching Frisco grow and expand over the last six years. Frisco leadership has done a great job keeping Frisco at the forefront of technology and growth and bringing businesses to the area. The economy has grown here, but at the same time it still has a safe, small town feel. It’s the best of both worlds. We also have so much at our fingertips in Frisco. Everything we need is a short drive away, and it just feels like home to us.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Frisco area? We love a few of the restaurants at the Star and Legacy West. For casual dining I’m a fan of Cane Russo and Tupelo Honey for brunch. For date night, we like Del Frisco’s or Toulouse.

What’s your favorite place to shop in the Frisco area? I love that Frisco has its own mall. Stonebriar Mall is so convenient if I need something quick and Nordstrom is my favorite.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me time”? What’s me time? Haha. The pandemic has definitely changed things. Sometimes, just going to Target alone feels like a treat! Also, having lunch with a friend or finding time to read are ways I can recharge.

Tell us about your career. My career has shifted over the years. I owned and operated my own interior design and staging business for nearly a decade before deciding to be a full-time stay-at-home mom when my daughter was four. It was around that time that my husband and I decided to build a custom home, and he encouraged me to document that process by starting a blog. Both the build and blog keep me busy, but my first priority will always be my job as a mom. This year has been interesting because I have also been a homeschool mom/teacher to my first-grader.

What do you love about your career? Blogging allows me to be home and do as much or as little as I can during different seasons of our life. I can write from anywhere, and I enjoy the flexibility it offers me. I studied entrepreneurship in business school, and I love owning my own business and building a brand. I love that my blog has the potential to evolve into something more. My blog also serves as a creative outlet, a way to document our lives, to share our experience and knowledge and hopefully inspire others. But, all of that aside, my family comes first and being a mom is the most rewarding job I will ever have.

What is one thing you look forward to every year? Christmas! I love Hallmark movie season, decorating for the holidays, curling up with hot cocoa by the fire, entertaining and getting together with our family and friends.

How do you juggle your career with being a mom and wife? It’s not always easy to dedicate the time to each area of my life that I would like to. I think that striving less and being thankful for what I have and the moment I’m in, takes the pressure off feeling like I have to do more. Modern day moms (and dads) seem to take on so much, and sometimes just slowing down is the best thing we can do. The pandemic forced us to do this in many ways, but also added extra challenges to our lives in other ways (like having our child home from school full-time). I think that having a good partner and practicing gratitude help me to juggle.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom? Grace not perfection. That’s the title of a book by one of my favorite authors, Emily Ley. She reminds us that we can be unhappy constantly striving for perfection or be happier by showing ourselves more grace and simplifying our lives.

What’s one fun fact about you? I was a Texas State Champion Baton Twirler.
