Screen Addiction

Screen Addiction

Your child’s body and brain become overstimulated from too much screen time which triggers high inner stress. Your child’s nervous system goes on edge. And inflammation builds up in your child’s body and brain. The stress hormones will cause your child to be irritable, tearful, depressed, or rageful; have temper tantrums or meltdowns; fight with siblings or friends; and be defensive or reactive.

4 Natural Strategies to help children with Anxiety

4 Natural Strategies to help children with Anxiety

Anxiety is a widespread problem among children and adolescents at Whole Child Texas. More than 20% of visits to a pediatrician’s office are due to behavior issues, and many of these patients have anxiety. More than 1/3 of adolescents have anxiety, and children as young as 6 years or even younger can experience feelings of anxiety. Childhood should be a time of happiness and laughter. Unfortunately, we live in a world where even young children experience incapacitating fears that rob them of joy and playfulness. Anxiety disorder is not just being a little bit nervous on the first day of school. It is extreme fear and constant worries even about minor life challenges.

When should kids get braces?

When should kids get braces?

The most important thing to keep in mind is every child is different! They go through growth spurts at different ages. So there’s not one “right” chronological age for orthodontic treatment. Generally speaking, kids start losing baby teeth between the ages of 6-8, but all their back baby teeth stay in until around age 12-13! Most kids start to get their adult teeth in the front, between the ages of 7, 8, and 9, which gives Drs. Rubin and Sentelle have an opportunity to start assessing what “Mother Nature” is doing. This time frame gives an important snapshot of what your child’s future might look like in regards to braces and orthodontics.

You Can Heal Your Child’s Anxiety

You Can Heal Your Child’s Anxiety

The condition we call ‘Anxiety’ has now reached epidemic proportions amongst adults and children. The statistics are staggering. Yet there is no blood test for this. We cannot see it on a scan. So, what exactly is it? What anxiety really is, and why millions suffer from it, continues to be misunderstood and incorrectly handled by too many practitioners and parents, and I believe that it is because of this, that we have a raging epidemic of anxiety today. First, it’s important to be aware that anxiety is a symptom not a disease or disorder. So, if anxiety is a symptom, we need to know the answer to the question: What is the source of this symptom, because when we identify and treat the source of the anxiety, the anxiety will go away.

The Sticky Situation with Chewing Gum!

The Sticky Situation with Chewing Gum!

Gum is something that my oldest daughter is always asking for when she sees other kids chewing it so I wanted to see what the experts Dr. Sentelle & Dr. Rubin thought about gum chewing! Deciding on whether or not chewing gum is good or bad for kids leaves parents and doctors in a sticky situation! With hundreds of chewing gum products on the market, the bottom line is that sugar isn’t good for your teeth. However, that doesn’t mean that ALL gum is bad! There are some pros and cons of chewing gum and how it can affect your oral health.

What’s the best toothbrush for kids?

What’s the best toothbrush for kids?

Whether you’re getting an electric or manual toothbrush, look for one that has a small, kid-sized head. The size and shape of the toothbrush should fit in your child’s mouth allowing you to reach all areas easily. Make sure you get the ‘soft’ bristles so they won’t hurt the gums. Never get ‘medium’ or ‘hard’ bristles because that can cause more damage than good … that includes moms and dads too, not just kids! Replace the toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles are frayed. Worn toothbrushes won’t clean teeth properly!
