Calling all families that want to sneak away for a cozy retreat or plan ahead for those special summertime memories! We took a trip to Carlton Landing, Oklahoma. If you’re driving from the North Dallas area, it was an easy 3 hour drive — and what awaited us was the most beautiful and cozy escape from the busy schedules and rushed routines.
Before I visited, I learned that this development was planned by the same team behind 30A, Seaside, and Rosemary Beach. The resort style community is incredibly charming with the backdrop of Lake Eufaula in Eastern Oklahoma.
I’m a member of the “Slow Mornings Club” so the fully stocked kitchen provided me the opportunity to brew some coffee, make our favorite weekend breakfast and get the day started on the right foot.
Then, we enjoyed the cloudy morning sipping on hot cocoa, watching a classic movie, “Little Giants” and spent some time drawing and soaking up that down time. It’s not always easy to “disconnect” from phones, and devices and such, but it was so very good for us! I love that the Lodge had movies, music, smart tv, DVDs and games available for us.
Once we were ready to tackle the day, we went to the beach to play in the sand, wander our way to a walking trail along Lake Eufaula, grab a coffee at The Meeting Place, and find the nature inspired playground!
Finally, it was time to plan dinner! We love to eat out while on vacation, and Mama appreciates a break from the dishes. We loved the reviews for Mama Tig’s so we loaded up and tried 3 very delicious Stone Fired pizzas. **There’s also a walkable location, it just happened to be close while we stayed, so we went to the location in town.
Back at the Lodge, we were able to enjoy the amazing goats milk, high quality, naturally fragranced soaps for a bubble bath for the kids and TRIPLE bunk bed. The kids have been talking about it ever since!
In the primary room, Mama got to relax and soak in Epsom salts in the clawfoot tub with a great book and a warm cup of tea!
Once the kids went to bed, Mama and Papa enjoyed a date night in playing games and dancing to the record player.
